What are the LEC and LCS?

The League of Legends European Championship (LEC) and the League of Legends Championship Series (LCS) are the game’s European and North American domestic leagues.

Each league features 10 teams and is played over two “splits” (Spring and Summer). At the end of each split, the top six teams qualify for the playoffs which decide the eventual champion. The top teams from each league will eventually battle it out in playoffs in the hope of qualifying for the biggest tournament of the year, the World Championships.

LEC 2022 Summer split odds

Things are heating up in the LEC and the league is a mess with the “stronger” teams falling apart.

We have new leaders in our rankings as MAD Lions have clawed their way back to the top with impressive wins over Excel Esports and Fnatic last week.

However, their rise to first was influenced just as heavily by a disastrous week for Rogue who went 0-2 for the first time since Week 1. In two matches that were very different to what we’re used to seeing, Rogue failed to control their games and allowed themselves to get caught up in repeated fights that didn’t go in their favour.

Misfits Gaming were once again able to show their excellent teamfighting abilities to complete a spectacular comeback against the now-former league leaders and record a huge win for themselves. And then Rogue were all over the place against Astralis and rapidly fell behind after repeatedly getting picked. Lee "JeongHoon" Jeong-hoon caught the eye again with flashy Bard plays but Andrei "Xerxe" Dragomir also deserves plaudits for his performances during the Summer season.

Returning to Misfits, Nikolay "Zanzarah" Akatov impressed after joining the starting line-up and Top-laner Joel "Irrelevant" Miro Scharoll looks like he’s finally finding his groove as Misfits also picked up a good win against in-form SK Gaming to significantly boost their playoff hopes.

And another team that have drastically improved are Team Vitality as Week 6 was likely the best we’ve ever seen from the superteam. Luka "Perkz" Perkovic has quietly been performing really well recently but the squad as a whole finally appeared to be on the same page and showed their unquestionable abilities with dominant victories over strong opposition in Excel and G2 Esports.

The loss was a blow to G2 in particular who are still surprisingly struggling for consistency. The same goes for Fnatic, whose defeat to MAD was their fifth consecutive loss. Fnatic currently find themselves outside of the playoff places and are in real danger of missing out with only two weeks left to play.

What to expect for the next week of LEC matches

The penultimate week of the Summer season is here and it’s going to be a banger.

The two teams that beat Rogue are going to face off as Misfits and Astralis attempt to keep their playoff hopes alive. Meanwhile, Rogue will have to respond with a massive game against MAD Lions waiting for them on Friday.

And if that wasn’t exciting enough, G2 will play Fnatic in a match that could go either way considering both teams’ wildly messy play. G2 will probably be slightly favoured but the last time these two met, Fnatic came out on top in a very one-sided affair.

Finally, Vitality have an excellent chance to continue their fine form with very winnable matches against Astralis and Team BDS. They just have to avoid complacency.

LCS 2022 Summer split odds

Not much has changed in the LCS this week, but it feels like a lot of teams are walking a fine line as the playoffs rapidly approach.

Last week, we mentioned that it was crunch time for Cloud9 with huge games against FlyQuest and Team Liquid after they had some dodgy performances. Impressively, they managed to step up and win both games with Nicolaj "Jensen" Jensen looking significantly better but it was Kim "Berserker" Min-cheol who was the real standout as he picked up a pentakill as Zeri against FlyQuest and then had a phenomenal 8/0/6 score as Kalista in their match against Team Liquid.

It was another alarming result for Team Liquid who looked miles off the pace yet again. They were bizarrely hesitant against Cloud9 which led to their downfall but they did at least manage to beat TSM though that doesn’t really tell us much about Liquid’s overall quality.

However, TSM did manage to pick up a win as well by defeating Golden Guardians after Colin "Solo" Earnest was moved into the starting line-up - a familiar situation for the American Top-laner who seems to regularly get subbed into struggling line-ups halfway through Summer. And while “Solo” was solid, it was Support Jonathan "Chime" Pomponio who impressed in the win with a fantastic Bard game - showing why he named himself after the champion.

Finally, we have to give commiserations to Immortals who had two huge upsets at their fingertips, only for them to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, twice throwing away their leads and the hard work of Mohamed "Revenge" Kaddoura and Shane Kenneth "Kenvi" Espinoza to eventually lose to 100 Thieves and Evil Geniuses.

What to expect for the next week of LCS matches

The penultimate week of the LCS will be critical for teams as not only will they want to lock their place in the top eight but also secure a high seed so they have the safety blanket of the winner’s bracket.

Last week was crunch time for Cloud9, now it’s Team Liquid’s turn as they need to find some kind of form with very difficult games against FlyQuest and Evil Geniuses awaiting them.

Though, there’s no time for Cloud9 to rest either as they also face a tricky schedule in Counter Logic Gaming and 100 Thieves.

And finally, if Immortals play like they did last week but tidy up their late game they should easily take down Dignitas and Golden Guardians to give themselves the best chance of qualifying for the playoffs. TSM had better be looking over their shoulders.
