January’s eSports Player of the Month: coldzera

The first person to win Pinnacle’s eSports Player of the Month title was an obvious choice. Marcelo ‘coldzera’ David is well on his way to becoming the best CS:GO player there has ever been. How does coldzera compare to other CS:GO players and why is he so good? Read on to find out.

Introduction to coldzera

Marcelo ‘coldzera’ David is without question the best CS:GO player on the planet. Winning two major titles, eight MVP awards (including two at a Major), eSports player of the year in 2016 and the No. 1 ranked player on HLTV for 2016 are just a few of the awards this phenomenal player has achieved.

Coldzera’s CS:GO history

Before joining Luminosity (LG), Marcelo was a relatively unknown player outside of his home nation of Brazil. Upon joining LG in 2015, Gabriel ‘Fallen’ Toledo stated his dedication and desire to win could help improve the team’s motivation to succeed, and he was not wrong.

Marcelo’s first event was the ESL One Cologne Major 2015. He finished the event with a kill-death (K-D) rating of 1.11 which was unheard of for a player of such little experience.

His impressive form continued, ending the year without a single negative K-D at an event. The following year coldzera cemented his position as one of the top players in the world. Three MVP awards, two Major titles and an ESL Pro League victory are just a few achievements of note. On top of this he achieved a 1.28 rating in the Majors, 74% of maps with a rating above 1.00 and a K-D difference of +709, all of which were higher than anyone else.

coldzera did not slow down in 2017. He achieved an insane 1.54 at the Majors, which is again the highest in the world, a K-D difference at big events of +768 and only had a negative rating at one event in the entire year. With numbers like this he was named player of the year on HLTV for a second year running, and has gone into the CS:GO history books as one of the greatest of all time.

Skills and weaknesses

coldzera stands out from his peers because of his lack of a weakness. Most players in CS:GO fit a certain style or role, but he is capable of doing all of them. He is just as impressive with his rifle as he is with his AWP. He can play a more supportive role, he can clutch, he can entry frag and he can lurk. The reason he is the best is because he is the full package.

The only slight issue he may have is his temperament. He can lose his cool sometimes but this is a double-edged sword, as it is this fire that motivates him and keeps his desire and will to win at the maximum. You only have to look at this face from an event he was playing at to see the level of focus he exudes at all times.

Reason for player of the month

Marcelo’s reason for being picked as the player of the month for January will be obvious to most. He had a fantastic year in CS:GO in 2017. He has redefined the term consistent while making a name for himself as perhaps the greatest CS:GO player of all time. Nobody else in the world can pull off the plays he makes with such a consistent level.

This level of success is only achieved with hard work and dedication (as evidenced by coldzera’s CS:GO hour on Steam) he will most likely be seen as a role model for anyone who wishes to make a career for themselves in eSports. If you want to be the best, you need to work as hard as Marcelo does.

We will be back next month with another player profile. If you have any suggestions, please let us know!
